Today, I dropped off the Honda Clarity to get detailed with Vroom money.
Finally damn! I’ve had to reschedule because of rain, and I’ve been driving the hell out of it because it’s dope.
The car doesn’t look like it’s been mudding, but I’ve been anxious about closing out the issues with my Vroom purchase — like receiving a dirty car. In short, I’m ready to stop thinking about this anymore.
Clarity is great on the 490 mile trip
The Clarity’s cost to fill up in Meridian at $2.75/gallon of regular unleaded is $17.88. The CRV’s cost to fill up in Meridian is $28.88.
My poor neglected CRV has been sitting for at least 2 weeks continuously. For my last two trips to pick up the kids, I took the Clarity to see how well it did on the 7-hour roundtrip. The Clarity does awesome btw.
On this last trip, Sunday 20 June, the kids and I arrived in Meridian, MS with 32 miles left of range at 75 mph. That’s pretty damn good. On the trip before that, because I thought I was smarter than Honda’s Owners Manual, I ended almost running out of gas and battery with roughly 15 minutes left of driving to get to Meridian – an almost very embarrassing lesson was learned by not using the HV driving mode correctly optimally.
When I filled up the gas side of the Clarity in Meridian, the tank only took 6.5 gallons of regular unleaded. The Clarity has a 7-gallon capacity (26.5 liters) gas tank. In comparison, the CRV gets to Meridian, MS from Huntsville with 1/4 tank of gas left in a 14-gallon gas tank (53 liters). The Clarity’s cost to fill up in Meridian at $2.75/gallon of regular unleaded is $17.88. The CRV’s cost to fill up in Meridian is $28.88. $11 is the one-way trip difference between the cost to fill up the vehicles.

Turo for the CRV
Anyway, I’ve made up my mind that I’ll be listing my 2014 CRV on Turo. Ideally, the CRV can earn enough to pay the bills for both vehicles while I continue to drive the Clarity to weekday things like VA appointments and Walmart grocery pick-ups. Also, the CRV looks so sad in the parking lot. I’m pretty sure there’s a wasp nest under the hood.
Now, the CRV also has a detailing appointment, so it can be a cool kid too. I even found an old car cover in storage that I used to use for the Prelude – I miss that car sometimes.
When do I go Turo?
I don’t have a date yet, but I’d like it to be available for the 4th of July weekend.
I don’t see where Turo requires a vehicle inspection. That will save some time and money getting started. I’ll post up more on this.
