The kids and I brainstormed a 3-person tic-tac-toe. We haven’t settled on a name, but the board is played on a 4×4 grid and first to 3 in a row wins.
We played a couple rounds, and the 3-person game plays a lot like a racquetball game call cut-throat. One person can easily create a situation where the other two players have to team up to avoid losing.

With 3 players, we needed a third shape. We chose a triangle. All major rules are identical to the original game: who plays first rotates, 3 in a row wins, etc.
You can see on the scratch sheet we considered a 5×5 grid. After playing a few rounds on the 4×4, we decided that number was just right.
Look out for the full white paper on this new spin on the classic tic-tac-toe. We’ll publish we decide on a name.
