I did it. This time last, I said I would. I ordered the new MacBook Pro days after Apple showcased and minutes after pre-orders were available.

MacBook Pro (2021) arrives days before my birthday

My 2015 MacBook Pro, who I love dearly, hasn’t turned off it’s cooling fan since Friday. It’s 16 GB of RAM convinced me to max out as I configured the 16in MacBook Pro that would replace it. Although, it won’t actually be getting replaced — Apple trade-in values are GARBAGE. Also, I’ve been running my Apps and NSS coursework projects in the 2015, so there’s no chance I’m giving up my current MacBook.

I considered it. I even went so far as setting up my Windows 10 desktop with the NSS suggested software. I ended up bailing because I hated the terminal application that wasn’t Powershell. I think it was called Ubuntu. Either way, it was painful enough to convince me to use Windows as a last resort.

I’ve been following the MacBook rumors for a while. I’d heard they were bringing back the SD card slot and magsafe charging. I’m still surprised they really did. Who knew manufacturers actually cares what their customers wanted. There at least 2 years of MacBooks that had to be charged through a USB-C port on a laptop that had only 4 ports total. That was very upsetting for me and felt like a step backward in the technology.

Now, Apple has delivered a completely useful and common sense-focused laptop again. It was a no brainier once I saw the 3 things I wanted my next laptop to have:

  • 15inch screen or larger
  • SD Card slot
  • Magnetic charging port and plug
64GB of RAM to activate speeds up to and exceeding Warp 9

I’d like to say there’s a list of reasons why I’d buy a computer that costs motorcycle money, but there isn’t a list. There are only two reason — which, I guess technically is a list…a list of two things. The first reason is performance: I need my computers to not sputter going uphill, therefore the highest amount of RAM I could buy for my Mac was a no-brainer. Secondly, Apple might have another lapse in judgement and churn out a line of MacBooks like the ones they sold us these last 3-4 years. There’s no way I’m getting stuck with a machine I have to wait to upgrade — not again.

This one will likely run solidly for 15 years — like a well-maintained Honda.
