I was thinking today that I’d like to see a place to tuck umbrellas inside cars. Specifically, a cool place to install an umbrella shoot would be the B-pillar bar.

The b-pillar is the narrow vertical bar between the driverside door and backdoor or each side of a vehicle. With a short to medium size umbrella, a little tunnel or tube-shaped attachment is built into the b-pillar and stretching from the floor to halfway up toward the seat belt mount. I imagine the shoot is open at the bottom but not open enough that the end of a pointy umbrella will get stuck.

Something I consider is that a wet umbrella is going to get the inside of a car wet no matter where in the car you place it. So, it makes sense to me that the best location for an umbrella in a car would be standing vertically in an area of the car where the footboards or seats won’t get wet. Now that I think of the wetness, it would be a good idea to have the floor at the base of the b-pillar covered in a small, weatherproof bristled mat like those green old school welcome mats.

But yeah, umbrella holders can work in cars. Someone just needs to make it happen.
