I saw a utility truck built by Altec this morning, and I remembered that time I was a kid my dad didn’t like his job so he left and got a new one. Up until that in my child-like understanding of being an adult, I thought that you had to work the job you had until you died. Basically.

Maybe it was my dad‘s expressed negative opinions of his work that led me to form the odd understanding that adults got stuck with the occupations they picked. During moments of correcting my behavior problems in school, my dad would often explain that he didn’t get cut and burned every day so I can act up in school. Background: my dad was a welder at Altec.

But you can just leave

At the time, it felt like my dad never had anything good to say about working at the Altec company. So, you can probably see why it was easy for me to see him and think that he was forced to work at that job.

He went to truck driver school and ultimately became a truck driver, a lightbulb went off for me. I understood that if you didn’t like your job, you could just get a different one.
