Last night, my daughter asked as me a question I was completely unprepared to answer: “Daddy, when do we [her and her brother] get jobs?” The scanerio was that I was at my desk working on saymoremultimedia.com.
I studied Maddalyn’s face to see that she was serious, and she continued, “We want to have money like in our wallets.” She went on to say her and her brother’s piggybanks in Mississippi don’t have a lot of money. A little background, Grandma “Gram” and Grandpa “Paw Paw” Johnson sent the kids a wallet and a coin purse loaded with money for my son’s birthday.
While I’m listening intensely to my daughter to understand what’s driving her desire for stacking money, I’m focusing on not losing the question because I think this is delicate moment to talk about earning income.
What’s the right answer?
Of course, I’m going to bask in the beauty of my 5 year old being curious about earning income. Of course! I’m an entrepreneur; I couldn’t be more happy. The answer satisfied her, but I feel like if I had some study time I could’ve done better. I kept it brief.
I told my daughter that I will get you a job working for my company. I might have mentioned the word soon. Maybe I mentioned something about doing work that’s fun to her. It’s also likely I completely overthought my answer which is why I don’t recall it exactly.
It could easily be as simple as she just wants to have more money in her kid coffers and has no care at all about being in Forbes’ list of 10 under 10😄
But then again, her personality traits point to someone better suited to calling the shots. I guess we’ll see what happens.
