I think selling sells better than talent. Also, I think this has been proven and persists in the entertainment industry.
Selling sells better than talent.
M. Wright
Consider the artist s are talented people who don’t have the success you think they should have. Being that I spend so much time on social media, I see a lot – a ridiculous amount of these artists. Some are coming up slowly, and some seem to be stuck or failing.
On the opposite end of that spectrum are people – who it would be a stretch to call talented – who are doing very well for themselves. By the way, I understand how vague I sound, but just roll with me for a second.
Why best sellers sell
The difference in these two groups of people seems to be the ability to sell. The successful have figured out how to sell attention, products, and ideas, etc. Far better than the measure of their talent is their ability to present themselves on these platforms in ways that best promote user engagement.
In my examples, I’m referencing the use of social media, but it should be clear that other examples in other forms of media are available. Fans of hip-hop can think of a handful of rappers with better lyrics than Drake, but those fans would be have a hard time naming an artist with better marketing acumen than Drizzy.
