I want to buy a house within 18 months. My credit is good enough now, but my budget needs work. Specifically, I have to reduce my monthly expenses.
Homeownership is the ultimate move in frugality. I don’t have a solid excuse for why I haven’t jumped into it sooner except that there’s so much involved that it’s a little fatiguing.
With my retirement and disability checks, I can afford $1070 a month for a home. I’m sure I can get a humble three-bedroom for that cost. Ideally, I want my first purchase to be a family unit that’s at least a duplex.
Worst case I am able to find only a multi family with two bedroom units, and the kids have to share a room a little bit longer than I planned.
