I left a $70 electric toothbrush in a hotel room the day after Christmas. It’s very out of character for my frugal nature. Maybe I was caught up in the moments.

But living in the moment is also unfamiliar to me, and the kids and I did a lot of that too — probably more than any holiday break we’ve had. It was pretty great.

Nearly bailed on Christmas

My kids almost missed out on their family Christmas because their dad was prepared to bail. The kids’ mom and I disagreed on the day we are supposed to initially exchange the kids for Christmas break according to the divorce agreement. Long story short, I was left with the choice to pick up the kids in their hometown in Mississippi.

Of course, the kids’s faces made the drive worth it. I’m especially grateful for my Auntie Linda and my dad for nudging me the right way. The kids wont know unless they read this that their dad almost bailed on likely the most fun Christmas they’ve had so far.

I just don’t have yay selfless nature. But I think I can developed a habit aching what’s good or better for the kids. Plus, habits don’t rely on emotion or feelings.

Recovering toothbrush

I contacted the hotel, and housekeeping the housekeeper and turned in my Oral-B. The receptionist described it, I celebrated, and told her I would see her soon.

I put a $20 bill inside an envelope and wrote Housekeeper THANK YOU to give to the housekeeper. Minutes after I hung up with the hotel receptionist, I left Huntsville to go get my ridiculously priced Oral-B.
