This morning, I read a dating profile description that began “If you can’t spoil me, keep scrolling”. It was funny and sad and probably my fastest swipe to date.

I appreciate the young lady being clear and forthright about her intentions. Say what you will about her goals — I’m not interested in judging — but the dating game players in the world could use more straightforward-ness.

Dad Knows I’m on a dating app

Yesterday, my dad rode in the car with me. I think that he saw a phone notification from a dating app which prompted him to ask if I had a young lady.

The short answer was no, and I went on to explain to him my experience with dating relative to using dating apps. I told him semi-jokingly that about 1 in every 30 matches is willing to sit down in person and have lunch.

A description I’d like to read in a profile would go something like this “I won’t meet in person, but I enjoy chatting from time to time with an attractive stranger”. That’s a straight shooter and someone who would leave no mystery for me to know if we’re on the same page.

Unfortunately, the info available is most often phrases like my kids are my world, future Doctor, and aspiring writer who loves my Yorkie – which all sound terrific. But what information does that advertise about your dating intentions?

That’s why when a young lady’s description opener clearly indicates her target mate is someone with expendable income dedicated to young strangers I applaud their clarity.
