Monday, I archived all but two Instagram posts on my primary Instagram account @mrwryt. My reason is to direct attention to small amount of details about me.
I got the idea from an actor I follow on the same social media platform. Because there is so little information on the person’s profile page, visitors‘ attention goes to those handful of details.
My own platforms deserve more attention
I don’t want to generate more traffic for social media platforms than I do for my own creations. Call me selfish.
It’s a matter of ownership. I know my Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages are not mine – nor is the content I publish for them.
I don’t control the content I produce for the platforms. I don’t own it or profit from it. Because of these facts, I’ve decided I’m no longer willing to give more energy to producing content for social media platforms than I will for my websites and digital creations.
I am very pleased with myself and this epiphany.
Instagram leading the charge
So, my @mrwryt Instagram today shows my name, an original quote, and a link to this website, michaelpwright.com. The two visible posts are a photo of the kids and I then a photo of SM3 logo stickers. These are the people and the thing at the top of my thoughts day to day.
I expect that I’ll do a similar trimming to my other social media accounts.
