Recently, I’ve had the idea of making MikeWriting.com a magazine publication.
Also, I’ve thought of changing the name to something without my name in the title, because I’d like to invite other creators to contribute. I won’t list the names publicly. They’ll be shown in a private post.
My thoughts on it is that I want to create a wider range of content that includes satirical and opinion pieces. Other content I want to include are interviews, case studies, public speaking, book reviews, and even a book club.
I want to put out a lot of different content and an online magazine feels like the best fit.
The Name Change
The name change isn’t an idea I’m married to yet. The major reason I’m considering a name change is, because I want to remove the expectation that I’m the online source of content on this platform.
I feel like the brand Mike Writing is more suited for a personal blog. And since I have michaelpwright.com now, I don’t see a place for using the alias Mike Writing. I never grew into making the alias thing work, and honestly I think the idea of marketing yourself as an alias is dated.
Today, people just want to know how easiest to find your content. Also, personal brands are really hot right now, so I like the idea of Michael P Wright displaying as Editor-in-Chief. It just makes sense
Something else about dropping the Mike Writing moniker is that I’ve been asked by more than one person for the name of the long-standing website. At least one of those people thought it was mike writes.
Personal Brand
Right now, I’m exploring the building of a personal brand. I’ve been watching trends and paying attention to the online business people I follow.
There’s a similar pattern where the person’s namesake website takes you to content built around their major product, or the websites serves as a hub to direct you to other websites and products from the person.
Publishing Company
I want to publish eBooks as author Michael P Wright and a publishing company. The magazine would be a product of the publishing company.
