Fetishizing minority partners doesn’t mean you’re not racist.

There’s no free passes.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I’m disturbed by remembering some key red flags about my last marriage.

The Red Flags I Ignored

I’ve drawn from the experiences and made a loose list of behaviors to look for in the similar interracial relationships. Things like the following:

  • One resists being involved in or adamantly avoids family activities put on by the other person’s family
  • One complains/condescends when talking about the family members of the other person
  • One person avoids interacting with the other person’s family members except for when the other person is available to act as liaison

These are just a handful I experienced in my past interracial marriage.
