My kids have started to talk about Bubblehead – my dream Quonset hut home – with me.

It’s a refreshing reminder to grind and make that dream a reality.

Middle East

I’ve been looking for System Administrator jobs locally and in the Middle East.

I’m leaning toward Middle East jobs because I see more bang for buck. With any job I take, a one year contract is included. With a desert assignment, that one year will come with a tax free salary and very likely a hired salary than that position I could get here.

Another advantage of take a desert is resume fodder. I looked up some jobs at General Dynamics (GDIT) — who is also here in Huntsville. GDIT has local positions and sandy ones. In an unlikely scenario, where I come back from 13 months of sand, and I want to continue working, I’d probably have a my pick of job positions at GDIT.

Major Reason Overseas Desert Job is so Attractive

I mentioned the unlikely scenario of my wanting to continue working after coming from the desert. Working for a company for 12-18 months is as much as I’d like to sacrifice of my freedom. Get in there, do the job, and get out.

However, I’m not naive. I know how much I enjoy making money. It would be a tough sell for me to go from being a 6-figure earner back to waiting for clients to know at the door of my marketing agency.

It’s a challenge. Well, it’s a few challenges:

  • Can I give up staying away from the kids that long again?
  • Could I earn the higher salary and keep my living expenses within the boundaries of my retirement and disability checks?
  • Could I mentally cope with maybe 18 months in a corporate office and remote?

Of course, I like to think I’m resilient and hardcore and thick-skinned. It would be sacrificing a lot. But it would be a bigger sacrifice – and tragedy – to still be renting an apartment in 4 years.

I want my land and Bubblehead enough to do what I gotta do. In American English, we call that sentence a bottom line.

Therapy

I just realized these are all concerns I can bring up with a professional who’s paid to improve my mental health and quality of life.

I think I’ll make some calls today.
