My Spanish-looking niece turned 12 years old today.
This morning, I went to my brother’s house and gave her a gift card for one of favorite eating establishments. Here’s a hint: “my pleasure!” She’ll be able to get herself a Number 1 with a lemonade.
Pleasantly Hard to Believe
It’s unreal to me that my brother has a little girl — even when I’m looking at her. I missed so much of his youth that it feels like I blinked then he had a wife, a spotty beard and a house.
I have every intention to serverely overcompensate with my niece — and my 16 year old nephew, my sister‘s son — for the time missed with my brother.
He and my sister-in-law are doing great with my niece as proven by the kid knowing what a W-2 is. That puts her Puerto Rican-appearing self at least 6 years ahead of the financial literacy I had.
