The Content is the Content

I’m rebuilding Mikewriting.com.

I think my approach this go ’round is a lot better than the 2018 rebuild. I have my notes organized in Evernote. I’ve collected screen shots and linked to ideas I want to use. The notes range from color palette to custom post types to multiple email list.

I even started sketching out the layout in sketchpad — which is something I can’t honestly justify because I should be doing that [wireframing] with Adobe XD.

Feels Like Posturing

But I haven’t written one new post or scripted one new narration for the 2020 relaunch of the website. The content is the most important part. So, I feel like the majority of the planning I do is posturing. It’s like the difference in having a meeting about the work that needs to be done vs doing the work.

If I had to put a number on the amount of items that can be done as I’m building the new site, I’d say about 2/3 of it. There’s a good chunk of ideas that I need to see on screen to know if they’ll work.

The message I’m reminding myself of today is that the content is the content — not the colors, not the email list, not the theme layout, etc.
