Introspection Sparked by a Dream about an Apartment Complex

black jack of all trades by Michael P Wright default

Last night in a dream, I was in a gigantic apartment complex or condos.

The structure was two connected buildings with the doors to the units opening to the buildings’ centers. In the center of each building, were large common areas. It reminded me intersecting walkways of a multistory mall or airport concords — except with an infinite number of stories. There were bridge walkways stretching across the buildings’ inside and a cafeteria-style restaurant on a high level on a high level.

I was with a group of people on tour. And yeah, it IS weird that an apartment complex gave group tours. I decided to see more of the place faster than the group was moving, so I started flying.

By the way if you’re new here: I’m aware of my dreams, and I can fly in all of them – like 99.7% of them.

A Thing I Do

I went on to fly up to the restaurant first where I only remember getting a tray and scanning the food items. Also, I remember going up really high but not seeing the top of the buildings. Nothing out of the typical flying activities — exploring, figuring out something, escaping/abandoning other people.

In this dream, I picked up on something I do during my takeoff. I flap.

Everytime I fly, I jump hard and push off the air with my arms .

Inherently, I knew why I flapped my arms.

When dreaming, I know that I CAN fly, but I still never believe I will until I’m in the air. The flapping let’s me test the waters, so to speak, before committing to flight.

Interpreting Dreams

Generally, I don’t give much attention to decoding the meaning of dreams.

But if I were to pick this one apart, here’s a few main points I’d present:

  1. I’m not a patient man. I may never be — Even in an environment where I control the variables, my nature prevails over any best intentions. In short, I don’t want to be or behave in any way that conflicts with my nature – flaws and all.
  2. I pretend at being sure of myself — I’m confident I can fly in any dream, but it’s when I’m floating that I believe it. I approach most things in life with the belief that I can win and will eventually win. I never believe I’ll fail.
  3. Escapism Satisfies Some Need — Always a common theme in my dreams is performing some act of escape. Whether it’s a group of people, one person, or a place, I find a way out and take it or the dream ends with me trying.

When I woke, I had a good laugh with myself thinking about the flapping thing like “Yeah, I DO do that.”
