Recently, I joined a singles group on Facebook. Someone asked the question “Have you been on a real date in 2019?”
I started wondering if I will ever date again. I started wondering again about not agreeing to marry without a prenuptial agreement and what sorts of things I might put in that agreement.
I think it would be pretty basic:
- Mutual full credit history review;
- List assets and a clause waiving any rights to assets owned, including owned by lienholder, by each of us prior to the marriage;
- Individual checking and retirement accounts;
- No shared/joint owned credit card accounts;
- Detailed breakdown of splitting assets and debts accumulated during the marriage
I think my biggest concerns are money and property including business entities and intellectual property.
Likely, a prenuptial agreement will be a deal breaker for most women — hard to say from my point of view. But if I play my cards right, the company I find myself dating will be on the same page professionally and personally.
Who doesn’t want to protect themselves. In my mind, it’s no different than a business partnership.
