Lifestyle design in action:
Today, I was impressed by Walmart’s pickup.
I’ve been getting groceries via Walmart Market pickup for months. I thought I’d try out the regular store’s service on a book shelf. Well, it’s not an actual bookshelf. On Walmart’s online store, I ordered 12 file crates in the colors blue, yellow, red, and green — 3 of each. My plan is to zip tie them together to make two shelves units: one for the floor and one for a desk. $73 total on the modular, homemade book shelves.
To further get off topic, the advantages of a file crate book shelf are twofold:
- Easy installation and tear down
- The crates make carrying cases for the books
So far, I’m on board with Walmart’s pickup. It’s not as hands free as having groceries put in the trunk of your car, but it’s still way, way faster than standing in a line.
Because my packages were large, I didn’t get to use “The Tower”, a ceiling height, three refrigerator-wide kiosk. The kiosk lets you scan a barcode from the app then dispenses your order. My crates were brought out by an associate, and I took them in a buggy to the car.
The kiosk looked cool and unsettling located in a area where 2-4 cash registers used to be, and I wanted to get to use it. Maybe next time.
