Designing a logo for yourself is painful.
I dream the idea, make it, then make alternate versions. That last part is the fun part tho.
Maybe I just get carried away. Sometimes I have to narrow a Top 8 to a Top 3 then pick a number 1.
I ask for feedback from creative friends. I think I could use a few more of them though. I have to get better at asking them what they like about their selections.
The toughest part of designing for my own projects is choosing. I’m never really, really satisfied. Ya know? Often, I get to a point where I’m like ‘OK, Buddy, you gotta move on’.
I’m definitely getting better at choosing simple concepts – sticking to 3-4 colors, using scalable shapes and lines, creating designs that work on multiple color backgrounds, etc. Using grids has been a real game changer. Designing in a grid appeals to my obsession with symmetry and congruity. I think the designs become more visually appealing too.
It’s all still fun. I’m looking forward to doing some paid branding work. For now, designs for my projects will fill a portfolio.
Also, I decided that my llc will do business as Say More Multimedia instead of the original short name of “Say More Media”. (The name of the company is Say More Multimedia Marketing LLC)
