Today, I finished a mobile landing page to drop in my Instagram profile. The page is an answer to Linktree’s genius idea of developing a platform that “fixes” the problem of Instagram allowing on one web site URL per account profile.
I’m not being sarcastic when I say it is genius. It really is. The service is free with a paid option that unlocks some customizing features. Linktree gives you a unique URL that sends visitors to a page that you setup with multiple links and titles.
I read on two separate technical blogs about creating your own, and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it. It took me about three days — I’m learning Photoshop. Get off my back — but I made a mobile scale version with all my extraness. I uploaded it to mikewriting.com as an html file, linked it to it’s own styleshee, and gave the full URL a short version with the mkwr.co domain name I have setup with Bitly (also genius developers).
Just like that now instead Linktree getting those page views, my get those pageviews.
The whole thing reminded me of how great it is having a website. I get to make the rules.
Tomorrow is Thursday, and I’ve been thinking about the new blog post a lot — specifically the format. I’m publishing the second part of a series, and for the most part it will be two lists of goals and my making connections between them. It’s not likely to look like my other content. It will probably be less wordy and more visual which I expect won’t translate well to the podcast episode. I think about it, but I’m not losing sleep. I make the rules here *evil laugh*
It’s not for a grade. I’m not getting a commission for my posts popularity. I get to make whatever I want.
Did I mention I love having a website?
